Neighbors Helping Neighbors Through Disaster with Hunger Support

With the devastation caused by Hurricane Debby (August 5-15) and Hurricane Helene (September 29 – ongoing), our team has been on the ground, ensuring that no family goes without food or basic necessities.

Hurricane Debby (August 5-15):

Despite facing significant challenges during Hurricane Debby, The Food Bank, Inc. continued to serve displaced families and children out of school due to flooding. Though we were unable to receive food from our primary supply source, the incredible support from our community made it possible for us to keep our doors open. Local donations enabled us to distribute emergency food and resources to those most affected by the flooding.

  • Power Maintenance: Thanks to our partner David Pearce of Pearce Building Systems, we were able to maintain power throughout the storm, ensuring our perishable food stock remained safe and we could continue our services without interruption.
  • Emergency Support: With local contributions, we provided food to families forced from their homes, as well as children and teens whose schools were closed due to the flooding.

Hurricane Helene (September 27 – Ongoing):

The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has been overwhelming, and our relief efforts continue. On September 30,  we distributed an unprecedented 267 shopping carts of food to families in need — nearly four times our daily average of 70.

  • Immediate Relief: In response to the widespread devastation, we ramped up our operations to distribute food and resources to impacted families as quickly as possible.
  • Ongoing Needs: As the aftermath of Hurricane Helene continues to unfold, we are committed to supporting our community throughout this recovery period. With the demand for emergency food assistance high, we are working tirelessly to meet the need.
